چکیده

Kumar, S. 130 INTRODUCTION Ceftriaxone is effective in a variety of infections including meningitis, septicemia, pyoderma, colibacillosis, surgical prophylaxis and infections of the urinary tract, respiratory tract, wounds, soft tissues and joints (1). It is characterized by its excellent activity against Gram-negative pathogens including Salmonella, Shigella, Proteus, Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Pasteurella, Escherichia coli and Neisseria meningitidis. The relatively low Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of ceftriaxone against Gram-negative bacteria makes it suitable for use in bacterial endometritis associated with Gramnegative pathogens, most of which are resistant to the other commonly used antibiotics (2). The use of antibacterial drugs that could penetrate into the udder parenchyma in therapeutic levels is of considerable importance, particularly in severe and life-threatening infectious conditions of the udder (3). There is meager information on the penetration of ceftriaxone from blood into milk. Although, some data are availIntramuscular Pharmacokinetics and Milk Levels of Ceftriaxone in Endometritic Cows

Pharmacokinetics of ceftriaxone in buffalo calves (Bubalus bubalis) following intravenous and intramuscular administration

Pharmacokinetics of ceftriaxone was studied in buffalo calves (Bubalus bubalis) after single intravenousand intramuscular administration of 10 mg/kg body weight. The drug concentrations in plasma samples weremeasured by high performance liquid chromatography with UV detection. Following intravenousadministration, the drug was rapidly distributed (Cpo: 106.5 ± 9.64 μg/ml; t1/2α: 0.09 ± 0.01 h; V...

Clinical Pharmacology of Ceftriaxone in Neonates and Infants: Effects and Pharmacokinetics

Ceftriaxone is a versatile and useful "third-generation" cephalosporin that needs to be administered once-daily. Ceftriaxone is a β-lactamase-resistant cephalosporin. It is active against important gram-positive and most gram-negative bacteria. The MIC90s of ceftriaxone are 0.1 µg/ml for Escherichia coli, 0.1 µg/ml for Klebsiella species, 0.2 µg/ml for Proteus species, 0.3 µg/ml for Enterobacte...

The pharmacokinetics and milk residual behaviour of tylosin in lactating Najdi ewes

The objective of this study was to evaluate kinetics and the residual decline of tylosin in milk and plasma of lactating Najdi ewes following single intramuscular injection of tylosin at the dose of 10 mg/kg. Blood and milk samples were collected from the ewes before and at different time intervals after treatment. Tylosin concentrations were determined by microbiological agar plate assay using...

Cytologic and histologic characteristics of endometritis in postpartum dairy cows

Endometritis is a prevalent uterine infection in postpartum dairy cows that causes some alterations in the endometrium. So, the aim of this study was to determine the comparative cellular and histological characteristics of uterus, especially neutrophils index and cell morphological alterations, in healthy and endometritic Holstein cows. Thirty non-pregnant cows were used. Based on uterine disc...

Milk and Blood Pharmacokinetics of Tylosin and Tilmicosin following Parenteral Administrations to Cows

The aim of this study is to determine the pharmacokinetics of tylosin and tilmicosin in serum and milk in healthy Holstein breed cows (n = 12) and reevaluate the amount of residue in milk. Following the intramuscular administration of tylosin, the maximum concentrations (C max) in serum and milk were found to be 1.30 ± 0.24 and 4.55 ± 0.23 µg/mL, the time required to reach the peak concentratio...
